In 2021, Kattas Figurteater celebrated 20 years and the town of Tønsberg turned 1150 years old. In connection with these anniversaries, we built the huge parade figure Osebergkatta. It was inspired by the carvings of nine cats on the back of a processional carriage found in the Oseberg ship. We have been fascinated by these mysterious cats and have created a complete program where children can experience, make and hear about the Oseberg cats.
We offer a city walk where the big cat, controlled by three puppeteers, wanders through the city to our own composed Obsergkatte song. There it interacts with the audience who stop to watch. After the city walk, we invite you to a workshop where children, with the help of their parents, can create their very own Oseberg cat with their own twist. At the workshop, we also tell stories and theories about the mysterious cats on the procession wagon.
